"Om Namah Shivaya" bracelet

Its festival season here in India! 2 days back we had Raksha Bandhan... Also colloquially known as rakhi, this festival is about sisters praying for a long life filled with health and prosperity for their brothers. The day starts with traditional puja's followed by a ceremony wherein the sister starts with applying red kumkum mixed with water and rice grains to her brothers forehead, following it with an aarti from a small camphor lit flame. She then offers her brother some sweet delicacies and ties a sacred thread as a symbol of her prayers on to her brothers wrist. It also carries the promose from her brothers part, to protect and care for her always.

We at girdharilal uphold this spirit of love, and had a special Raksha Bandhan theme running in our store. Our designers specially designed beaded and sterling silver rakhi's. Every sister wishes par excellence for her brother. It goes without saying that we would provide her with a variety of designs in silver to match the purity of her love for her brother.

We would like to showcase one of our designs, that generated the most interest and sale... This is often known as a kada. A silver band worn by men on their wrists, it carries a sacred inscription in Hindi spelling 'OM NAMAH SHIVAYA'. It is a prayer dedicated to lord shiva that is believed to bring blessings and divine powers.

We also customise these inscriptions and can engrave an inscription of your choice as well. Do let us know what you think of the piece, and contact us for orders and customised requests.

Beaded Pendant

Beaded Jewellery has become one of the hottest sellers nowadays.. And why shouldnt they! they look attractive and colourful and can beautifully enhance your attire. So I thought of showing you this lovely beaded pendant. It is made from a coral and a turquoise, a rare but befitting combination of colours... Or so we made it seem!

This piece resembles a bell. What gives it the ornate touch is the intricate carving done on the sides. This delicate silver carving.. meticulously contrasted by the natural oxidation of silver on its base lends the perfect balance between chunkiness and elegance. It can be worn with a silver chain or even with a thick black thread!

One of the interesting things about the red coral used in the pendant is that it is believed to serve as a good luck charm and is theorised to ward off evil spirits and bestow strength and vitality to its wearer. So not only will this piece help you get compliments... it may bring you lots of love and luck as well!

Footprints on your Feet!

Hi... back again.. this time with something that might appeal to your creative side! I want to show a pair of toe-rings.. These toe-rings are worn to adorn the feet and endows them with beauty and grace and makes them look rather... interesting!

The thought behind this piece drove me back to a wall painting placed in my room ages ago.. It was a wooden frame with sand glued to its surface, with sparking mirrors in gold and silver arranged in the shape of a footprints. A famed poem, "Footprints in the sand" was embedded tastefully to its right. I used to spend long hours gazing at the hanging placed facing the head of my bed on the opposite wall.

Well, I thought, wont it be fabulous to embed footprints on to a toe ring? It was like a thought brought to physical form.. The touch of oxidised silver, brought the impression of the sand, and tiny footprints of either foot were placed strategically on each piece from the pair.

A piece like this is sure to bring you back to the days of your fun-filled adventures in your local country beach or send you to that romantic sea-side dinner that you planned. Send in your comments or mail us for orders.

Silver Moon Earrings

Let me show you one interesting pair of earrings. The design for these earrings was thought of while sky gazing on one beautiful clear night. It is quite romantic to look at the stars and at the solitary moon as it looks back at you, each night changing its expression and altering its form, while you stare back virtually unchanged, a day older... a day wiser. I thought what an interesting idea would it be.. to try and capture the moon in its altering form, and use it in a piece of adornment, for all to witness.. even during the day. This piece was an attempt at just that. The moon- in its crescent and whole.. the former embedded in the latter; the latter devouring the former..
It came out quite beautiful and indeed trendy.. It has been put up first on the blog for all to see. Do send in your comments and emails to express your take on this piece!
